LawnMate has been family owned and operated for over 60 years, spanning 3 generations. We know Northern Virginia and care about this community because we've grown and thrived in it.
Beginnings
LawnMate's story begins with a veteran. After serving his country in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam, Ellsworth "Van" came home to Northern Virginia and built something new — a lawn care company founded on the same values he'd carried through decades of service: discipline, pride, and a commitment to doing the job right.
A New Generation
In 1981, Van's son Jim took the reins and grew LawnMate into the leading lawn care service in Northern Virginia — earning the trust of thousands of homeowners and recognition from publishers like Consumer Reports. Jim didn't just maintain what his father built. He made it better.
Looking Forward
In 2023, Jim passed the company to the next generation — his children Ryan and KC — who are committed to carrying that legacy forward while continuing to improve and grow the business for a new era.
Our Staff
What makes LawnMate different isn't just the history. It's the people. Some of our crew members have been with us for over 30 years. They know these neighborhoods, these soil types, and many of our customers by name. When we say your lawn gets the same crew every visit, we mean it — and that continuity shows in the results.
